I was recently in Hawaii for vacation and while I was there we decided to go on a deep sea fishing cruise. ON the boat I noticed a sign saying that all garbage must be shredded before being dumped in to the water. Suprised I asked the captain if the sign was out of date... he said he wished it was but it wasent. he assured that he would never dump his garbage . Then he told me something even more shocking, that any ship three or more miles out from shore could dump all the garbage they wanted, because who wants to bring all that garbage back to port. Right? it needs to stop!!
heres a site that can tell you more about the dumping http://www.surfrider.org/a-z/cruise.asp

I am with you Seamus! I'm loving my Flip and Tumble reusable bags which I use not only at the supermarket but in all stores, CVS, Staples, etc. The clerks think I am nuts but I don't care. Say no to plastic.
